Ivan Erdevicki is a founder and owner of the company named “ER Yacht Design” which deals (as its own name suggests) with the yacht design. Yachts that are designed by Ivan decorate a lot of harbours as well as a lot of seas and oceans all over the world. This interview will bring you closer to Ivan’s attitudes, opinions and interests, and on these few photos you will be able to see some examples of Ivan’s work. Get to know this talented designer and entrepreneur who is our Balkan’s pride, but who also works all over the world.
WANNABE MAN: You have a very sophisticated and refined taste and style when it comes to designing your own work. When did you become interested in doing design?
IVAN ERDEVICKI: It might sound a bit unusual, but since my 3rd grade (10 years old); I started to draw boats in my schoolbooks. At the end of the year, they were covered with boat sketches. I continued doing this throughout my schooling…I still do the same thing 35 years after!
How would you describe your style of design, what is your personal touch on your projects?
I always start with my “inner world” where I draw my inspiration. I develop ideas from there implementing new trends if required, classic styles, and/or modern styles, but in my own way. I always do my initial drawings by hand on paper using drawing spline. I believe the most beautiful and the most valuable things are done by hand. There is no technology that will substitute this. I never forget to implement basics in any of my creations. This is how I make my designs to be distinctive and when people see my designs, they immediately know it was created by me. I never try to copy others work; I don’t like that.
You are a renowned yacht designer with over 20 years of experience in yacht design and naval architecture. Why yachts? Tell us what is the reason why you’ve chosen naval architecture. We would also like to know have you, beside navigable vehicles, ever designed something else?
The Mediterranean atmosphere and spending time in the harbour and at sea, sailing and just “messing around” boats…Your imagination can get wild in young age with interaction with the sea, sky and light…play of light shadows and brightness…defining the shapes and form…vividness of colours and textures…Even now I get goose bumps thinking how beautiful that feeling was. That’s how I fell in love with boats and yachts!
I have been approached many times by clients to design their houses, gardens, restaurants, but I am not an industrial designer, neither civil architect nor want to pretend to be one. I am a true yacht designer and naval architect, and to create the best, you just have to approach a design with true love and passion. I can do that only with yachts and boats.
